On April 29th, International Dance Day, Patrícia Leal launches her EP ÁGUAS and opens the call for the Improcesso 7 Artistic Residency

On April 29th, the artist, dancer, singer, poet and perfumer Patrícia Leal launches her second original work in Brazilian popular music, the EP ÁGUAS, celebrating International Dance Day and marking the opening of the seventh edition of the artistic residency of dramaturgical dialogues in improvisation; Improcess 7: Seed.
WATERS is a work that began at the end of the pandemic and reflects on the emotions, feelings experienced during this period and on the author's relationship with internal, emotional waters and external waters, be it the Sea, waterfalls, rivers. Choreo-songs are born from the need for rapprochement with oneself, with nature, after a long period of isolation, from the need to understand one's own feelings and from the understanding that we are nature. The artist actually visited open sea locations in Natal, Pipa, São Miguel do Gostoso, as well as waterfalls in more closed and forested locations in Delfinópolis, Minas Gerais, which brought the necessary movement to the melodies, poetry and fragrances so peculiar to the artist's creative process. In addition to the EP, the artist created two fragrances “Concha” and “Rainha”, which are named after two songs from the work.
The formation chosen for the work - sax, piano and percussion - allowed for a more intimate atmosphere, necessary for the performance of the songs and featured the collaboration of great artists: Anderson Pessoa on saxophone, Eduardo Taufic on piano and Ramon Gabriel on percussion. The intimacy of the artists, who have already participated in the singer's other works, provided, this time, a new format in the recordings, made live. This choice allowed emotions and waters to flow in real time during the recordings and for some songs to be extended more in improvisations.
The launch takes place on all digital platforms in celebration of International Dance Day and marks the opening of the Call for the Improcesso 7: Semente Artistic Residency.
Improcesso is a biennial artistic residency, which has been taking place since 2013. In these 12 years it has produced artistic presentations, video dances, short docs, books, involving postgraduate students, teachers, artists, civil servants, undergraduate students, from various states in Brazil, from inside and outside the University. The event promotes interdisciplinarity between artistic languages such as dance, music, performance, theater, poetry, perfumery, in the exercise of the language of improvisation, promoting artistic deepening, reflection, as well as the opening of the creative process in public presentation.
In this seventh edition, we will have as a guest the great master of botanical perfumery Eliane Vicente Sagulla Walsh, who will give the opening lecture on the History of perfumery. The residency, which is based on the creation methodology, Art through the Senses (Leal, 2021), based on smell, will promote a synesthetic dialogue between movement, sound, smell, image, and poetry. The residency always starts from this methodological research framework, highlighting the development of perception for creation, based on improvisational language and real-time dramaturgy.
IMPROCESSO 7 is a biennial artistic residency with a national call, free of charge, that promotes the study of the language of improvisation and its possible dramaturgies through dialogical performative exercise, based on the “dance/art through the senses” methodology (Leal, 2020) in sharing with artists, researchers, educators in the arts; dance, performance, music, theater, visual arts, media, among others. Interested parties should send an email to patrícia.leal@ufrn.br from April 29th, justifying their interest and telling us a little about their artistic career. The residency takes place from 27 to 30/05 at DEART UFRN.
