Cycle shows films and promotes meetings with Argentine filmmaker Andrés Di Tella at UFRN

Programming includes commented screenings and a masterclass with one of the main names in Latin American documentaries
This week, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) hosts the Andrés Di Tella Cycle, an event that pays homage to one of the most important documentary filmmakers in Latin America. The program takes place between the 4th and 6th of June, in Auditorium 1 of the Department of Social Communication (Decom/UFRN), with free sessions open to the public.
Born in Argentina in 1958, Andrés Di Tella is internationally recognized for his innovative approach to documentary cinema, which mixes autobiographical elements and reflections on collective identity, memory and culture. In addition to being a filmmaker, he is a professor and one of the founders of the Buenos Aires International Independent Cinema Festival (BAFICI). Among his recurring themes are the political dilemmas of Argentine history, contemporary art and the original peoples of South America.
The cycle was curated by professor Sebastião Guilherme Albano, who selected the films in dialogue with the author himself. The choice sought to align the aesthetic and ethical relevance of the works with the interest of the local public and the legal feasibility of exhibition.
Complete schedule:
06/04 (Wednesday), at 7pm – Screening of the film “Fotografías” (2007, 110 min)
06/05 (Thursday), at 7pm – Masterclass with Andrés Di Tella + Screening of the film “Mixtape La Pampa” (2023, 101 min)
06/06 (Friday), at 8pm – Screening of the film “Ficción Privada” (2019, 78 min) + Conversation with the director
With works such as Montoneros, una historia (1995), La televisión y yo (2002), 327 cuadernos (2015) and Diarios (2022), Di Tella has been considered one of the exponents of the so-called “subjective turn” in contemporary Latin American cinema. His films stand out for exploring the limits between the personal and the political, the intimate and the historical, always using a unique and critical language.
