The Departments of Anthropology (DAN) and Social Communication (Decom) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) participate in the organization of a cultural program that precedes the inauguration of the exhibition Herdeiros de Zumbi: Um Album de Família de Sibaúma, open to the public and scheduled for July 25th, at 4 pm, at the Centro Cultural Herdeiros de Zumbi, in Sibaúma, district of Tibau do Sul.
As part of the program, there will be two special film screenings directed by photographer and filmmaker Jorge Bodanzky, who will be present to talk to the public after the screenings. The initiative is carried out in partnership with Livraria Manimbu, Cineclube Pipa and A Fonte Bar.
On July 22nd, the film Iracema, a Transa Amazônica will be shown at 7pm, at Livraria Manimbu Arte e Cultura, in Natal. On July 24th, at 7pm, the public will be able to watch the documentary Um Olhar Inquieto: O Cinema de Jorge Bodanzky, at A Fonte Bar, in Praia de Pipa.
The program culminates with the opening of the exhibition Herdeiros de Zumbi: Um Album de Família de Sibaúma, which brings together more than 200 photographs produced by Jorge Bodanzky in 1968, considered among the first photographic records of a quilombola community in Brazil. The photographer will participate in the inauguration, marking the return of the images to the place where they were produced and the reunion with the people portrayed and their families.
UFRN is involved in the research and assembly stages of the exhibition, which also includes the participation of the Moreira Salles Institute (IMS), responsible for guarding the photographic collection and transferring the images to the Quilombola Association of Sibaúma.
In addition to the opening of the exhibition, the program will feature the presentation of products developed by extension projects carried out in the community. Fellows from extension projects and students from courses in Social Sciences, Tourism and other areas of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA/UFRN) participate in the initiative.
The exhibition portrays families from the quilombola community of Sibaúma, highlighting their history, identity and resistance to the onslaught of enterprises, especially in the Pipa region. The collection has great historical and cultural relevance and, in the future, will form part of the Sibaúma Memory Center, contributing to the appreciation of the community's memory and cultural heritage.
