Multirrisco Project socializes research results with the community

Next Tuesday, 10/20, members of the Multirrisco Project, an interinstitutional initiative that involves researchers from the Federal University of ABC (UFABC), the National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alerts (Cemaden) and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), will meet to share the results of more than two years of efforts. The four Project coordinators participate in an open activity, starting at 2pm, in the Auditorium of the Institute of Public Policies of CCHLA, at UFRN.

The meeting promotes the exchange of practices and experiences between researchers, evaluating the impact, contributions and individual and collective learning generated by the Multirrisco Project. Leila Sousa, post-doctoral student and project manager, highlights that it will be an opportunity to hear references on the topic, reflecting on how the multi-risk theme – still with few studies in Brazil – has permeated their research.

The coordinators of the Multirisk Project bring together different expertise linked to disaster risk management. From UFRN, professor Lutiane Almeida addresses the construction of multi-risk indicators, and professor Samia Sulaiman discusses participatory methodologies and education for disaster risk reduction. UFABC professor Fernando Nogueira shares the lessons learned from Community Risk Reduction Plans (PCRAs) and the transition to the multi-risk approach. Finally, professor Silvia Saito, from Cemaden, brings the perspective of a people-centered alert system for extreme events, such as heat, drought and fire.

The main objective of the Multirrisk Project, which is funded by Capes and CNPq, focused on developing indicators for anticipating and preventing risks in the face of the reality of intensifying climate change. Using new methodological approaches, the project brought together a multidisciplinary team to advance the debate on multi-risk scenarios in Brazil.
