UFRN professor gives lecture on the global diffusion of Brazilian musicality

Professor Alessandro Dozena, from the Department of Geography at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), will give the lecture “The global diffusion of Brazilian musicality: a geographical reflection” next Thursday, July 23, at 5 pm, in the Salão Nobre of the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico do Rio Grande do Norte (IHGRN), located at Rua da Conceição, 622, Cidade Alta, in Natal. Entry is free and there is no need to register in advance.

The activity is part of the Quinta Cultural program, a permanent IHGRN project aimed at disseminating historical knowledge and valuing the cultural memory of Rio Grande do Norte.

During the lecture, Alessandro Dozena will reflect on the influence of Brazilian music on musical and festive practices around the world. The proposal is to discuss how this influence has generated alternative models of parties and musical production, evidenced by re-territorialized cultural practices, operated by an identity game and motivated by the lasting and irreversible expansion of transnational musical diversity.

Geographer and PhD in Geography from the University of São Paulo (USP), Alessandro Dozena is a professor at the Department of Geography at UFRN, a member of committees and research groups related to his area and an effective member of IHGRN since 2023, where he occupies chair 142 – Inácio Meira Pires.

Quinta Cultural periodically promotes meetings at the Casa da Memória headquarters with the aim of bringing society closer to the institution's intellectual and cultural production. The event will be held in the IHGRN Noble Hall, with capacity for 50 people. Revista do IHGRN nº 103, the new edition of the book “Responsibility Civil do Estado”, by Amaro Cavalcanti, as well as other publications, will also be available for sale on site.
