The Postgraduate Program in Social Anthropology at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (PPGAS/UFRN) published Notice No. 04/2026, which regulates the selection process for the Doctorate course in Social Anthropology, with admission scheduled for the class of 2027. In total, 11 places will be offered.
Of the total, six vacancies are allocated to open demand with broad competition; two vacancies are reserved for black and brown people (PPP); two places are reserved for people with disabilities (PwD); and a complementary vacancy will be allocated to the internal training of active permanent employees of the UFRN permanent staff, through the Institutional Qualification Program (PQI).
The registration request is free and must be made between October 5th and November 5th, 2026, until 11:59 pm. The notice establishes that vacancies allocated to black and brown people and people with disabilities that are not filled will be added to the widely competitive vacancies. The vacancy allocated to UFRN employees will not be relocated if it is not occupied.
The selection process will consist of six stages. The first consists of the approval of the requested registrations and is eliminatory in nature. The second stage corresponds to the written test, of an eliminatory and classificatory nature, lasting four hours and with a minimum grade of 7.0 for non-opting candidates and 6.0 for opting candidates.
The third stage will be the oral argument and defense of the research project, also of an eliminatory and classificatory nature. The fourth stage consists of the analysis of the curriculum, of a classificatory nature. Subsequently, the partial result and the final result will be carried out, both of a classificatory nature.
The final result of the selection for the affirmative action modalities will be subject to the opinions of the specific panels. It is planned to hold a hetero-identification panel for black and brown candidates, under the responsibility of CVER/UFRN, and a validation panel for PwD candidates, under the responsibility of SIA.
Calendar
The approval of registrations will be announced on November 9, 2026, with the written test scheduled for November 16. The results of the second stage will be announced on November 23rd.
The arguments and oral defenses of the research projects will take place between November 30th and December 2nd, 2026, with results scheduled for December 3rd. The result of the curriculum analysis will be released on December 10th.
The partial result of the selection process is scheduled for December 15th, while the final result will be announced on December 18th, 2026. Confirmation of interest in the vacancy must be made by February 10th, 2027, according to the notice.
The course is scheduled to start in March 2027.
