The International Colloquium on Metaphysic is the most important event organized once every 3 years by the Postgraduate Program in Philosophy of Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. The aim is to provide an overview of ongoing research activities and to strengthen the research community and its practices, promoting the exchange of ideas between Brazilian post-graduate researchers and post-graduate researchers abroad. The III International Colloquium will be held at the University Campus (Centro de Ciências Humanas, Letras e Artes and Biblioteca Central Zila Mamede).
In its preview editions (2003, 2006), the International Colloquium on Metaphysics achieved a significant level of contribution to philosophical community by reporting outstanding research on Metaphysics and related areas, specially promoting the development of research in the Northeast of Brazil. The insights from the preview editions had one volume published and there is another one to be released in the beginning of 2009.
The III International Colloquium on Metaphysics celebrates the 80th anniversary of Martin Heidegger’s 1929 lecture “What is Metaphysics?” (Was ist Metaphysic?), turning this question the main subject of the event, although not restricted to an specific author but bringing up the discussion in its multiple aspects, concerning the nature, history and critique of Metaphysics. Papers are expected to show researchers contributions on questioning Metaphysics through tradition and actuality and the Colloquium is structured in workgroups under the following topics: Ancient Metaphysics, Neoplatonism, Modern Metaphysics, Contemporary Metaphysics, Logic and Ontology. Also, the invited speakers bring relevant contribution to the meeting.
