BIOGRAPHY

I was born in 1954 in the Vila Seropedica, near to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After an intellectually boring medicine undergraduate study, I gained my MS in philosophy at the IFCS (Rio de Janeiro) and a PhD in philosophy at the University of Konstanz (Germany). Since 1992 I work as a researcher and professor in the UFRN (Natal), secluded in the beautiful Northeastern of Brazil, though always in contact with the international philosophical discussion through many grants taken at the universities of Konstanz, Munich, Berkeley, Oxford, Göteborg and ENS. Even if dealing with contemporary analytic philosophy, I have few proximity with much of the main stream philosophy, probably due to a certain Wittgensteinian outlook. My most relevant books are "The Philosophical Inquiry" (Lanham: UPA, 2002), on the nature of philosophy, "Paisagens Filosóficas" (Rio de Janeiro: Tempo Brasileiro, 2012), "Lines of Thought: Rethinking Philosophical Assumptions" (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2014), and "Philosophical Semantics: Reintegrating Theoretical Philosophy" (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2018), a systematic book with 495 pages, which can be read as a development of the views on theoretical philosophy defended by Ernst Tugendhat in his classical work Vorlesungen zur Einführug in die sprachanalytische Philosophie(1976). Much of my work can be accessed,at least in draft form, in my "blog": Claudio Costa: Philosophical Texts - Textos de Filosofia
